The free tool that helps you open and fill out those important PDF files
You’ve probably been sent a file that ends in “.pdf” and thought:
“Okay, now what?”
To open it, read it, fill it out, or print it — you need the right tool.
That tool is called Adobe Acrobat Reader, and the best part?

What Is Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Adobe Acrobat Reader (sometimes just called “Adobe Reader”) is a free app that lets you:
- Open and read PDF files
- Fill out forms
- Add your signature
- Save and print documents
It works on Windows PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets.
If You’re Using a Windows PC
Step-by-Step:
- Go to the official Adobe website
Click here to visit: get.adobe.com/reader - Uncheck the optional offers
(They may offer McAfee or other extras — you don’t need them) - Click the big “Download Acrobat Reader” button

4. Once the file finishes downloading, open it
(You’ll see it at the bottom of your screen or in your Downloads folder)

5. Follow the instructions to install — click Yes or Install when prompted

6. When it’s done, you’ll find Adobe Acrobat Reader in your Start menu
You’re ready to open any PDF!
If You’re Using a Mac
- Visit get.adobe.com/reader
- It should detect you’re on a Mac and give you the correct version
- Click Download Acrobat Reader
- Once downloaded, double-click the file in your Downloads folder
(It’ll look like a .dmg or installer file) - Follow the instructions to install it
- You’ll now find it in your Applications folder
Double-click any PDF and it should open in Adobe Reader by default.
If You’re Using a Phone or Tablet
You can also get Adobe Acrobat Reader on mobile:
iPhone or iPad:
- Open the App Store
- Search for “Adobe Acrobat Reader”
- Tap Get or the download icon
- Open the app once installed
Android (Samsung, Pixel, etc.):
- Open the Google Play Store
- Search for “Adobe Acrobat Reader”
- Tap Install
- Open the app after it finishes installing
Now you can open PDFs right on your phone, fill out forms, and even sign them.
What If Something Goes Wrong?
- If it won’t install, restart your device and try again
- If a file won’t open, make sure you installed Adobe Reader completely
- If a PDF opens in the browser and you want it in Adobe Reader instead, right-click the file > “Open with” > Choose Adobe Acrobat Reader
